{"id":99013,"date":"2019-10-18T15:57:13","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T13:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/polishscience.pl\/?p=99013"},"modified":"2019-10-18T15:57:13","modified_gmt":"2019-10-18T13:57:13","slug":"university-of-gdansk-researchers-receive-loreal-unesco-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.polishscience.pl\/en\/university-of-gdansk-researchers-receive-loreal-unesco-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Gda\u0144sk researchers receive L&#8217;Oreal-UNESCO scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Researchers at the University of Gda\u0144sk, Dr Ewelina Kr\u00f3l and Karolina Pierzynowska &#8211; have won the &#8220;L\u2019Or\u00e9al-UNESCO for Women and Science&#8221; program.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr Ewelina Kr\u00f3l from the intercollegiate faculty of biotechnology of the University of Gda\u0144sk and the Medical University of Gda\u0144sk received a postdoctoral scholarship for the project &#8220;Development of innovative strategies for combating viral infections in humans with particular emphasis on hepatitis C virus, tick-borne encephalitis virus and Zika virus through the use of chemically synthesized therapeutic agents and new generation vaccines&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Karolina Pierzynowska, MA from the biology department of the University of Gda\u0144sk, received a scholarship for PhD students for the project &#8220;Induction of autophagy as a mechanism of genistein action in the experimental therapy of neurodegenerative diseases&#8221;.<br \/>\nThis year, a record number of 144 candidates from 39 institutions applied for scholarships.
