J\u00f3zef Rotblat&#8217;s war for peace&#8221; in the competition for the best Polish book on the history of science and technology.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The competition is organized jointly by the Committee on the History of Science and Technology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), J\u00f3zef Mianowski\u2019s Science Support Foundation and P\u0142o\u0144sk self-government.<br \/>\nThe awarded book is an extraordinary story of a forgotten physicist from Warsaw&#8217;s Muran\u00f3w. J\u00f3zef Rotblat was 36 years old when he was working out an atomic bomb within a secret Manhattan project. He was Polish and refused to accept British citizenship &#8211; he was therefore suspected of espionage for the Soviet Union. When he developed the most terrible weapons of mass destruction in the US, his family in occupied Poland fought for survival.
