During the research and design works at the Grodno Castle in Zag\u00f3rze \u015al\u0105skie, students of the architecture department of the Wroc\u0142aw University of Technology discovered that the stronghold was not expanded in the 16th century – as it was thought so far – but much earlier, in the Middle Ages.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Young architects came to Zag\u00f3rze \u015al\u0105skie for the fifth “Castles and their shadows” workshops organized by the ArcHist Scientific Society of the History of Architecture. They spent over a week at the Grodno Castle, studying it and creating projects that will help better present the history and architecture of the object.<\/p>\n

Students participating in the workshops prepared virtual models of three stages in the history of Grodno Castle. The earliest shows the fortress during the time of Prince Bolko I, i.e. at the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the next stage presents Grodno around the mid-fourteenth century during the reign of Prince Bolko II. The last of the virtual presentations is a Renaissance castle – this was how the stronghold could look between the 15th and 16th centuries.
