{"id":313559,"date":"2023-11-03T09:47:05","date_gmt":"2023-11-03T08:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/polishscience.pl\/?p=313559"},"modified":"2023-11-03T09:47:05","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T08:47:05","slug":"szczecin-and-german-scientists-join-forces-in-the-fight-against-antibiotic-resistant-bacteria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.polishscience.pl\/en\/szczecin-and-german-scientists-join-forces-in-the-fight-against-antibiotic-resistant-bacteria\/","title":{"rendered":"Szczecin and German scientists join forces in the fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers from the West Pomeranian University of Technology and the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin and the German Institut f\u00fcr Pharmazie, Universit\u00e4t Greifswald have joined forces in the fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Polish and German researchers decided to use natural extracts from plants such as sundew and the southern African native Elephantorrhiza elephantina, whose strong inhibitory activity against the formation of bacterial biofilms had previously been found by German scientists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selected strains of bacteria are juxtaposed with a biopolymer coated with material obtained, for example, from sundew extract. The biopolymer is usually a form of cellulose, or alginate, which can be extracted from seaweed.
