Prof. Kazimierz B\u0119cek of the Wroc\u0142aw University of Science and Technology has discovered an unusual landform in Brunei. While analysing laser scanning data, he came across a unique structure – an oval depression with a diameter of about 700 m and a depth of about 6 m.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

‘In high probability, this is a crater that we did not know existed before’, says the researcher. The professor suspects that the extraterrestrial rock may have fallen in this place about 1-2 million years ago, during the Pleistocene epoch, when there were large fluctuations in sea levels due to periodic glaciations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Preparations are underway at the site for an expedition to confirm these findings. The probable crater is located in the middle of a primeval jungle, unpenetrated by man.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

‘Getting there will require a great deal of agility and a good guide. It is a path that means wading through dense vegetation, sinking into layers of leaves and roots, where various ‘surprises’ may be lurking’, adds the scientist.<\/span><\/p>\n
