He obtained his doctorate in legal and political sciences in 1984, after which he became a professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, becoming director of the Institute of Legal and Political Sciences in 2004. He also lectured as Professor of Law at the Catholic University of Portugal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout his career, he has taught at various educational institutions in Portugal and abroad, as well as working with civic institutions and associations and being active in the social sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He became President of the Portuguese Republic in 2016.
