Under his leadership, the Department has established the most respected academic Judaic Studies program in all Central Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The award was created in 2008 by Taube Philanthropies in memory of Irena Sendler, who was honoured by the Yad Vashem Institute with the title &#8216;Righteous Among the Nations&#8217;. The prize is awarded annually to those who distinguish themselves by preserving and revitalising the Jewish heritage of Poland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marcin Wodzi\u0144ski is a professor of Jewish history and literature, head of the Department of Jewish Studies at Wroc\u0142aw University. His area of academic interest is the social history of Jews in the 19th century, the history of Jews in Silesia and Jewish material culture.
