The long-term goal of the project is to understand the structure of the human mitochondrial replisome, the functional cooperation between components of the replisome and the mechanistic basis of the causes of human disorders resulting from mitochondrial dysfunction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One in approximately 2,000 people is at risk of developing a mitochondrial disease during their lifetime. This makes mitochondrial diseases one of the most common groups of metabolic disorders.
