Mackey, one of the world&#8217;s most eminent specialists in mathematical biology, has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Silesia in Katowice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prof Mackey has made an enormous contribution to the development of research combining mathematics, physics, biology and medicine. He has conducted such interdisciplinary research since the beginning of his scientific career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has published a total of more than 200 research papers and nine books (including two edited volumes). He has collaborated with scientists from many countries and has been a visiting professor at many universities. There are three universities in Europe to which he often returns: the University of Oxford, the University of Bremen and the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scientific collaboration between Michael C. Mackey and the biomathematics group at the University of Silesia has lasted for 45 years. It began in 1977.
