Biosensors, applied to fibre-optic networks, provide the possibility of monitoring wastewater in real time. This will improve the safety of schools, kindergartens and nursing homes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Substances and micro-organisms that are excreted by the human body can be identified and analysed, and their qualitative and quantitative changes are an extremely useful tool for the detection of social or infectious diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Headed by Professor Ma\u0142gorzata Szczerska, scientists from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics at the Gdansk University are conducting research on the application of a biosensor for detecting viruses (SARS-CoV-2 and others, e.g. influenza) or their components &#8211; an ultra-fast diagnostic tool using optical fibres for telecommunications.
