The procedure, performed by two teams of surgeons, took several hours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A repeat heart transplant is extremely rare, and performed together with a kidney transplant in the same patient is an absolutely unique procedure. The 54-year-old woman underwent the operation in May, but only after three months it is possible to speak with certainty of success: the patient&#8217;s condition allows her to be discharged home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;An increasing number of people with heart failure also have kidney problems. This is why there is a need for multi-organ transplants, the number of which is steadily increasing worldwide. In the USA, for example, around 150 such procedures are performed annually.
