It can potentially be used in the fuel, pharmaceutical and environmental industries, as well as in fundamental research &#8211; genetics, biology and cell evolution.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The unique properties of the new red algae strain grown at the University of Warsaw may be used in various areas of the economy. Algae can be a rich and inexpensive source of large amounts of biomass for the production of biofuels. Biomass can also potentially serve as a natural source of hydrogen fuel. Krasnorost will also prove useful in purifying water environments and sewage from heavy metal compounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The University of Warsaw emphasized that it can also be used in the pharmaceutical industry, which develops drugs based on the mass production of selected proteins with a medium with a high content of sulphates, nitrates and phosphates &#8211; for example, mRNA-based vaccines.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scientists from the Center of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw (UW) have grown a new strain of extremophilic microalgae.
