Beata Zima from the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Shipbuilding at the Gda\u0144sk University of Technology is working on creating a method for monitoring the corrosion of ocean engineering structures caused by contact with salt water. In the work on the project, the researcher will use the so-called non-destructive techniques, more precisely from the analysis of structural vibrations.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI will excite vibrations, then I will register signals at selected points in the structure. I will try to create an algorithm to assess the global level of degradation based on the readings, as well as where the point damage is and what size it is\u201d, says the researcher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project &#8220;Monitoring the technical condition of metal structures subjected to corrosion degradation&#8221; received PLN 1,063,460 funding in the Sonata competition. It is attended by the Gda\u0144sk University of Technology, the Goethe University in Frankfurt and the University of Lisbon.
