{"id":211446,"date":"2022-04-15T20:51:40","date_gmt":"2022-04-15T18:51:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/polishscience.pl\/?p=211446"},"modified":"2022-04-21T11:43:30","modified_gmt":"2022-04-21T09:43:30","slug":"prodigiosin-dressings-may-save-lives-in-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.polishscience.pl\/en\/prodigiosin-dressings-may-save-lives-in-war\/","title":{"rendered":"Prodigiosin dressings may save lives in war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>The research team of Prof. S\u0142awomir Ciesielski from the Department of Biotechnology in Environmental Protection at the Faculty of Geoengineering of the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn, developed a method of fractionating and binding the separated prodigiosin fractions with the dressing. \u201cLaboratory tests of bacterial inoculation have shown that golden and cutaneous staphylococcus does not develop<\/b> <b>on dressings with prodigiosin\u201d, writes Lech Krysza\u0142owicz, editor-in-chief of UWM University News.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch dressings can be useful wherever it is not possible to quickly clean the wound, e.g. in field conditions, especially during military operations\u201d, said Prof. Ciesielski and stated that &#8220;staphylococci may develop in such wounds after a few hours, which makes their treatment difficult, and in extreme cases may even lead to infection of the entire body and death of the injured person&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe use of alternative antibacterial compounds is important due to the problem of antibiotic resistance.
