{"id":186470,"date":"2021-07-13T15:52:09","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T13:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/polishscience.pl\/?p=186470"},"modified":"2021-07-13T15:52:09","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T13:52:09","slug":"scientist-of-the-university-of-wroclaw-honored-with-the-lord-byron-medal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.polishscience.pl\/en\/scientist-of-the-university-of-wroclaw-honored-with-the-lord-byron-medal\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientist of the University of Wroc\u0142aw honored with the Lord Byron Medal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Prof.\u00a0 Go\u015bciwit Malinowski from the University of Wroc\u0142aw was honored with the Lord Byron Medal.\u00a0This Greek decoration is awarded to people who made a special contribution to Greek culture and history on the 200th anniversary of the outbreak of the national uprising.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prof.\u00a0Malinowski and Prof.\u00a0Maria Kalinowska from the University of Warsaw were honored for creating a list of foreigners-Philhellenes, supporters of the cause of the liberation of Greece from Asian rule, fighting in the 1820s on the side of Greece.\u00a0The researchers established the identity of about 50 Polish Philhellenes, veterans of the Napoleonic army, officers of the Prussian and Russian armies, students and\u00a0representatives of the Greek diaspora in the Congress Poland.<\/p>\n<p>Poland was one of the strongest centers of Philhellenism.\u00a0Later, Americans and Brits joined the movement.
