They indicate which genetic factors may influence the severe course\u00a0of\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0disease.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr\u00a0Karolina Chwia\u0142kowska, a researcher from the\u00a0Center for Bioinformatics and\u00a0Data Analysis of\u00a0the Medical\u00a0University of Bialystok and Alexander Teumer from the\u00a0Department of Population Medicine and\u00a0Prevention of Civilization Diseases\u00a0of the Medical\u00a0University of Bialystok, together with nearly 3,500 scientists from\u00a0over 1,200 world scientific and\u00a0clinical\u00a0organizations, have been conducting research since March 2020 to answer the question: what genetic factors may affect the\u00a0fact that\u00a0in\u00a0some COVID-19 patients the virus develops a severe, life-threatening illness requiring hospitalization, while others suffer from mild symptoms, or have no symptoms?<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;COVID-19 Host Genomics Initiative&#8217; project highlighted three variants of the FOXP4, DPP9 and TYK2 genes that affect the immune system&#8217;s response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.\u00a0It was also confirmed that smoking and excessive body weight play an important role.<\/p>\n<p>More:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/translate?hl=ru&amp;prev=_t&amp;sl=pl&amp;tl=en&amp;u=https:\/\/www.umb.edu.pl\/aktualnosci\/23981,Naukowcy_z_UMB-_Karolina_Chwialkowska_i_Alexander_Teumer_wspolautorami_wyjatkowej_publikacji_w_Nature\">https:\/\/www.umb.edu.pl\/aktualnosci\/23981,Naukowcy_z_UMB-_Karolina_Chwialkowska_i_Alexander_Teumer_wspolautorii_wyjatkowej_publikacji_w_Nature<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The results of international studies involving Polish scientists from the Medical University of Bialystok (MUB) have been published in the journal &#8220;Nature&#8221;.
