The book “WUWA 1929\u20132019.\u00a0Wroc\u0142aw exhibition of Werkbund\u201d by Dr Eng. Jadwiga Urbanik, Wroc\u0142aw University of Science and Technology won the prestigious the Marek Witruwiusz Award.\u00a0The award is granted by the Architecture and Town Planning Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The author of the book, based on on original archival materials stored at the Museum of Architecture in Wroc\u0142aw. She showed the complex nature of the experimental WUWA housing estate in Wroc\u0142aw, which delivered new types of cheap, small and medium-sized apartments, as well as innovative technologies and construction materials.<\/p>\n

The housing estate was located between today’s Wr\u00f3blewski, Tramwajowa, Dembowski, Zielony D\u0105b and Kopernik streets. It was established on the initiative of Werkbund – an organization founded in 1907 that brought together architects, artists and construction engineers.\u00a0The activities of the Werkbund had a significant impact on the development of the \u200b\u200bmodernist architecture in Germany and the neighboring countries.<\/p>\n
