{"id":173385,"date":"2021-04-01T19:31:16","date_gmt":"2021-04-01T17:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/polishscience.pl\/?p=173385"},"modified":"2021-04-01T19:31:16","modified_gmt":"2021-04-01T17:31:16","slug":"polish-scientists-join-the-new-network-coordinating-astronomical-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.polishscience.pl\/en\/polish-scientists-join-the-new-network-coordinating-astronomical-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Polish scientists join the new network coordinating astronomical research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Scientists of the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw (UW), led by Prof.\u00a0\u0141ukasz Wyrzykowski, will be responsible for coordinating about one hundred ground-based telescopes.\u00a0Astronomers will start cooperation with foreign researchers within the new OPTICON-RadioNet Pilot (ORP) network.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two astronomical networks will jointly create the largest network of OPTICON-RadioNet Pilot (ORP) observation instruments in Europe.\u00a0Until now, the OPTICON network has dealt with observations in the visible field, and the RadioNet network in the radio field.\u00a0The newly created network will provide European scientists with access to a wide variety of ground-based instruments and support the scientific development of young astronomers.<\/p>\n<p>Two Polish universities the University of Warsaw and the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toru\u0144 will participate in the project worth EUR 15 million, financed by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists from the University of Warsaw will be responsible for coordinating the operation of small and medium-sized ground-based telescopes.\u00a0Their task will be monitoring the temporal variability of interesting objects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scientists of the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw (UW), led by Prof.\u00a0\u0141ukasz Wyrzykowski, will be responsible for coordinating about one hundred ground-based telescopes.\u00a0Astronomers will start cooperation with foreign researchers within the new OPTICON-RadioNet Pilot (ORP) network.
