It will be used in in vivo imaging of the retina of the eye, thus enabling the creation of tools for advanced and early diagnosis of eye diseases – says the project leader, Dr Grzegorz Soboń.

The laser generates ultra-short pulses with a duration of 60 fs and a wavelength of 780 nm. It allows to tune the pulse repetition frequency (adjusting the time interval between successive pulses). Especially the last feature is extremely important and crucial for applications in multi-photon microscopy, as it allows to adjust the frequency of pulses to specific fluorophores.

More: https://pwr.edu.pl/uczelnia/aktualnosci/takiego-lasera-jeszcze-nie-bylo-prototypowe-rozwiazanie-na-w4-11667.html

Scientists from the electronics department of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology have created an ultra-compact laser that will help picture the retina accurately and detect eye diseases earlier.
