{"id":133436,"date":"2020-06-19T15:34:06","date_gmt":"2020-06-19T13:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/polishscience.pl\/?p=133436"},"modified":"2020-06-19T15:34:06","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T13:34:06","slug":"university-of-physical-education-in-poznanto-launch-amyotrophic-lateral-sclerosis-studies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.polishscience.pl\/en\/university-of-physical-education-in-poznanto-launch-amyotrophic-lateral-sclerosis-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Physical Education in Pozna\u0144to launch Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Researchers at the Academy of Physical Education in Pozna\u0144 will implement the project &#8220;Mechanisms conditioning the collapse of homeostasis between synaptic stimulations and the internal excitability of motoneurons in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in mice.&#8221; The research will be funded with over PLN 2.5 million under the Opus 18 competition of the National Science Center.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The aim of the project is to determine the cause of the breakdown in activity regulation, called homeostasis, between motoneuron&#8217;s internal excitability and its synaptic stimulation level, and to see if restoring homeostasis will delay the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.<\/p>\n<p>The study will be conducted on genetically modified mice possessing the mutated human SOD1 gene, showing a phenotype similar to human amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
